Duck Gets a Job by Sonny Ross (Theme Jobs)

Duck needs a job, at first he does not give thought to what kind of job he would like. He lands a job on the first interview and is excited for a very short time. Duck hates his new job and quits. Duck thinks about what he might like this time before applying for his next job. This book is written for children but I can see a lesson here for adults also!

Activity

Everyone let’s dress up for a job interview. We are applying for a job with Duck.  Our first job interview is in an office. What shall we wear? The next interview for Duck is an artist job. What shall we wear? (Put out several clothes sale papers and have the students cut out the outfit they think would be best for each interview.)

Duck went a huntin’

By Vicky Manning

(“Frog Went A Courtin” Lyrics)

Duck went a huntin’ and he did walk, uh-huh

Duck went a huntin’ and he did walk, uh-huh

Duck went a huntin’ and he did walk

With a phone and briefcase by his side, uh-huh uh-huh

He found a job in the big city, uh-huh

He found a job in the big city, uh-huh

He found a job in the big city

Working in an office by himself, uh-huh uh-huh

He said, “I quit, and then he left, uh-huh

He said, “I quit, and then he left, uh-huh

He said, “I quit, and then he left,

To find him a job less stressful, uh-huh uh-huh

An Artist is what he wanted to be, uh-huh

An Artist is what he wanted to be, uh-huh

An Artist is what he wanted to be

He drew a picture of you and me, uh-huh uh-huh

    1. I have a question for you. I write children’s books and have found it next to impossible to get published. I’m thinking about just putting my stories on my blog just so others can enjoy and forget about making money. I love making children smile so if I can get teachers and others to share with everyone then at least someone is reading what I have written and can enjoy it, is it a bad idea do you think?
