Nests by Pepe Marquez (Theme Bird Nest)

Nest by Pepe Marquez

The first thing I noticed about this book was the vibrant colors. The animals in the book are adorable. In one line sentences the author writes about how many animals they are and where they live. The bird becomes the main event in the storyline.

Building a nest

By Vicky Manning

I’m going to take your sticks right under your tree.

I’m going to take your sticks right under your tree.

I’m going to take your sticks right under your tree.

And make a nest.

I’m going to build my nest right under your roof.

I’m going to build my nest right under your roof.

I’m going to build my nest right under your roof.

And then I’ll rest.

Cute photo idea

Save up your shredded paper till you have two extra- large bags full.

Dump the paper on the floor and let the class make a classroom nest.

Take a picture with the class sitting in their nest.

FUN!

CRAFT

BIRD NEST

Materials

Cupcake paper baking cups

Pom poms

Shredded paper (make a tight ball)

To make the bird wings you will fold the paper cup in half first then cut as shown above. The circle will be too large, make a pleat down the middle of the circle. Tape or glue the pleat down. Place a pom pom in the middle of the wings with doublesided tape or glue. Place eyes on the pom pom. Make a beak. (I use sticker eyes for nearly all my crafts because I work with young children. You can purchase a roll of sticker eyes on line and they will last a long time.)
